Ever wondered what the term roulette means or how the game is played? If yes, then you’re in the right place and should find this article beneficial in one way or another.
Roulette is a casino and gambling game. It is a French word which translates to “little wheel” in English. The game requires players to place bets on either: a number; a range of numbers; whether the number is even or odd; or between the colours red or black. To play the game, a dealer spins a wheel in one direction while spinning a ball in the opposite direction, around a tilted circular track running around the circumference of the wheel. As you may already know, the ball will eventually lose momentum and fall straight on the wheel and into one of the 37 (in European roulette) or 38 (in American roulette) coloured and numbered pockets on the wheel. This is how the winning number or colour is determined on each play and, obviously, whoever guesses right wins the bet.
Roulette has become one of the most popular casino games, both in online casinos and also in offline, land based casinos. It is an easy game to understand and play and the odds are much better than other games such as keno. However, games such as blackjack have a lower house edge because there is a certain amount of player skill involved that can dictate how well a player can do.
There are a number of betting options for players who choose to play roulette. For example, a player who chooses to bet on the 'outside' of the wheel will select bets based on whether the winning number is odd or even, the pocket colour, or based on larger positional groupings of pockets. On the other hand, if a player decides to place his/her bet on the ‘inside’ of the wheel, they’re left with the options of either selecting a small range of pockets based on their proximity on the layout or the exact number of the pocket the ball will land in. At the end of the day, the payout or the amount of money a player earns by playing roulette depends on the probability of getting the outcome he/she has placed their bet on.
So what happens when a winning number and colour is determined by the roulette wheel? In answer to that, once that happens, the dealer will place a marker on that winning number or colour on the roulette table layout. The rule is, when the marker is on the table, no players may place bets, collect bets, or remove any bets from the table. The dealer will then sweep away all other losing bets either by hand or rake, and determine all of the payouts to the remaining inside and outside winning bets. Once the dealer is finished calculating and making the payouts, the dolly is removed from the board where players collect their winnings and make new bets while the winning chips remain on the board.
